A teen was shot in the leg on Friday in Taylorsville and was rushed to the hospital.

SALT LAKE CITY — A teen was rushed to the hospital after being shot in the leg, according to the Taylorsville Police Department.

on Friday afternoon, according to Lt. Aaron Cheshire with TPD, the teen was shot in a nearby McDonald’s parking lot after a fight broke out. He was transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

Six schools in the area were placed on secure protocol, with Taylorsville High School being on complete lockdown. Police said the lockdown has since been lifted.

The shooting had no connection to the schools in the area, but police were dispatched to the schools as an extra precaution to ensure safety, according to police.

“They came on the announcements and said that the school was going to be locked down, and the teacher didn’t let anyone leave the classrooms,” said Taylorsville High School sophomore Alexa Tomek.

Tomek and her friend, fellow sophomore Shea Taylor, told KSL TV this isn’t the first time they’ve been put on lockdown.

“I mean, there’s been so many shootings happening recently and so many fights I don’t get the point in them,” Tomek said. “It’s getting to the point where you don’t even feel safe at school.”

“It’s been happening too much,” Taylor said.

The suspect was still at large and had not been located at the time of publication.

“At this time, it seems to be an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public,” police said.

KSL TV observed at least three shell casings marked at the scene.
